Vienna Earn Deserved 3–1 Away Victory in Linz
In the 16th round of the ADMIRAL Women’s Bundesliga, Vienna faced an away match in Linz. At the Donauparkstadion, coach Mark Dobrounig’s team met BW Linz. After a strong performance, Vienna secured a deserved 3–1 victory and took three important points back to Vienna.
There was also a special milestone to celebrate: Viktoria Hahn made her 100th appearance in a Vienna jersey.
Strong start for Vienna
Vienna began the match actively and created the first attacking moments early on. In the 4th minute, Pfanner had the first shot, but her effort was too central. A few minutes later, Lueger tried her luck with a low long-range shot (9’), which was saved by the Linz goalkeeper.
Vienna were also alert defensively: in the 15th minute Schweitzer from BW Linz had a close-range effort, but Grabenhofer reacted brilliantly and made the save. Shortly afterwards Vienna became dangerous again: Lueger’s shot was initially saved, and Höcherl’s follow-up attempt was eventually blocked (19’).
Lueger gives Vienna the lead
In the 31st minute the pressure finally paid off. Viktoria Hahn first hit the crossbar with her attempt, but the ball remained in play. Lueger reacted quickest and converted the rebound to give Vienna a deserved 1–0 lead.
Shortly before halftime there was another big chance for a second goal: Höcherl sent Pfanner through on goal, but her shot went just wide (45’). After a strong first half and a deserved lead, Vienna went into the break ahead.
Lueger completes her brace after the break
Coach Mark Dobrounig made no substitutions at halftime, and his team continued exactly where they had left off. In the 52nd minute, Kerschbaumer delivered the ball into the box. The cross first hit the post and then fell directly to Lueger, who calmly finished to make it 2–0 and complete her brace.
Shortly afterwards Vienna made their first substitution: Sarac came on for Kerschbaumer in the 57th minute. Vienna remained dangerous. In the 61st minute Pfanner cut inside, but her shot went just over the crossbar.
Linz pull one back – Vienna respond
In the 67th minute BW Linz reduced the deficit. Substitute Grgic received the ball in the penalty area and struck it beautifully into the top corner to make it 1–2.
However, Vienna responded only minutes later. In the 69th minute coach Dobrounig introduced fresh legs with Strömberg and Pötzl replacing Laaksonen and Höcherl. For Pötzl it was her comeback after injury and at the same time her debut for Vienna.
Pfanner seals the victory
In the 72nd minute Vienna effectively secured the win. Lueger delivered a cross to Pfanner, who headed the ball into the far corner to make it 3–1.
Vienna made their final substitution in the 77th minute, when Havel replaced Seidl. In the closing stages Vienna controlled the match and comfortably saw out the lead.
In the end Vienna celebrated a deserved 3–1 away victory, taking three important points from Linz after a strong team performance.
