Vienna celebrates 2–0 away win in Klagenfurt
In the 22nd round of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga, Vienna were once again in action away from home. Against Austria Klagenfurt, the Blue-Yellows laid the foundation for victory with a 2–0 lead in the first half and then confidently saw the game out.
The final match before the international break took Vienna to Carinthia, where the Döbling side faced Austria Klagenfurt. Against a team already relegated due to insolvency, Vienna made one change to the starting lineup. Bauer moved into the right-back position in place of the suspended Nnamdi. Max Mergner also came into the starting eleven, taking up a role in defensive midfield.
Vienna dominate early on
Vienna took control of the game from the outset and enjoyed significantly more possession. Klagenfurt often had to resort to fouls to disrupt the visitors’ rhythm. As early as the fifth minute, this led to the first dangerous set piece, but Rosenberger’s free kick narrowly missed the target.
Lead from a set piece
While the home side mainly relied on counterattacks, Vienna remained in control. Their efforts were rewarded in the 17th minute: after a precise cross from Rosenberger, Zimmermann rose highest and headed home to make it 1–0.
Vienna in control
Even after taking the lead, Vienna remained the more active side and controlled proceedings. The Carinthians’ few attacking moves were consistently stopped by the visitors’ defense. In the 34th minute, however, Vienna had to make a substitution due to injury, with Zeidler replacing Mergner.
Chances at both ends before the break
Austria Klagenfurt registered their first big chance in the 39th minute, but Vienna goalkeeper Unger made a strong save and deflected the ball for a corner. He also dealt confidently with the resulting set piece.
Vienna had the final say in the first half: once again, Rosenberger delivered a precise cross, and this time Prohart headed home to make it 2–0 at halftime.
Second half: Klagenfurt more active
Both teams remained unchanged after the break. Klagenfurt appeared more determined and pushed forward in search of a goal, but Vienna soon regained control and calmly circulated the ball. Clear chances were initially scarce.
Substitutions slow the game
In the 58th minute, Klagenfurt made a double substitution, but the game became scrappy. Vienna remained defensively solid, while the home side lacked attacking penetration. At the same time, Vienna often missed precision in the final pass going forward.
Chances on both sides
Vienna introduced fresh legs in the 69th minute, bringing on Rusek and Monschein. Shortly after, Klagenfurt had a good chance, but Dollinger missed the target from close range.
Vienna remain dangerous
Vienna continued to pose a threat and came close in the 78th minute when Bauer struck the post from distance.
Both teams made further substitutions in the closing stages. Shortly before the end, Monschein had another great opportunity, but the Klagenfurt goalkeeper produced an excellent save.
Confident away victory
In the end, Vienna secured a deserved 2–0 away win, delivering a composed and convincing performance ahead of the international break. Their next match is on April 3 at Hohe Warte against Kapfenberg.
