Vienna celebrate deserved 2–0 home win
In the 17th round of the ADMIRAL Women’s Bundesliga, Vienna hosted SCR Altach at Hohe Warte. After a goalless first half, the Blue-Yellows ultimately secured a deserved 2–0 victory against the visitors from Vorarlberg.
On Sunday morning, Vienna played their second-to-last match of the regular season at Hohe Warte. Following last week’s win against BW Linz, the objective was clear: another home victory against SCR Altach.
Emotional farewell before kickoff
Even before kickoff, emotions ran high at Hohe Warte as Pia Piplits was officially bid farewell after six years with Vienna. With over 120 appearances, as part of the team that earned promotion to the Bundesliga in 2021 and as a key figure in the runner-up finish, she played a major role in shaping a successful era for the club. She was given a heartfelt send-off into retirement to loud applause from the fans.
Vienna dominate, Altach hold firm
The hosts started the match with intent and quickly took control. In the 10th minute, a free kick from Sarac caused danger, with Pfanner getting her head to the ball, but an Altach defender cleared it off the line.
Vienna remained on top and repeatedly put Altach under pressure. In the 21st minute, Pfanner won the ball strongly and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Altach keeper Steenhuis reacted well, rushing out to deny the opener.
Just two minutes later came the next chance: Kerschbaumer set up Lueger, whose low long-range effort narrowly missed the target.
Injury substitution and Altach’s first chance
In the 25th minute, Altach were forced into an early substitution as Keckeis went off injured and was replaced by Meister, who quickly made an impact. In the 30th minute, Altach attacked down the right, but Meister’s shot was safely saved by Vienna goalkeeper Grabenhofer.
More chances but no goals before halftime
Vienna remained the more active side in the closing stages of the first half. In the 40th minute, Seidl broke through on the right and aimed for the near post, but once again the Altach goalkeeper was equal to the effort.
Despite clear superiority and several good chances, Vienna were unable to find the net before halftime, and the teams went into the break at 0–0.
Halftime changes add momentum
Vienna made a double substitution at the break, bringing on Fankhauser and Pötzl for Seidl and Laaksonen. Altach also made a change, with Purtscher replacing Scheel.
Pfanner gives Vienna the lead
Vienna picked up right where they left off and were rewarded early in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Lueger played a perfectly timed through ball to Pfanner, who calmly finished to make it 1–0. Just two minutes later, the same duo combined again, but this time Pfanner’s effort went over the bar.
Vienna in control
From then on, Vienna were firmly in control, moving the ball well and limiting Altach’s attacking opportunities.
In the 70th minute, Vienna made another change, with Höcherl replacing Sarac. Shortly afterward, Altach responded by bringing on Hermann for Ebersold.
Late drama
Höcherl tested the goalkeeper with a long-range shot in the 74th minute, but it was comfortably saved.
In the 84th minute, Altach came close to equalizing when Mikulica struck the post—Vienna were fortunate to escape conceding.
Havel seals the win
The decision came immediately after. Following a quick counterattack, Lueger’s shot was initially saved, but Havel reacted quickest to slot home the rebound for 2–0 in the 85th minute.
Deserved home victory
In the end, Vienna claimed a well-earned win, having controlled large portions of the match and rewarded themselves with three points for a strong performance.
