Three points secured in Stadlau

In Round 20 of the Vienna City League, our amateur side faced an away match in Stadlau — a venue where points have traditionally been hard to come by for our Blue-Yellow representatives. For example, last season saw a bitter 2–4 defeat on the narrow artificial pitch behind the main field. This match, played on a cold winter afternoon, also took place on that very pitch.

Dream start
The game could not have started better. From the very beginning, the opponent was put under pressure, and the high press led to an early ball win just outside the penalty area. Ellen wasted no time and fired the ball spectacularly into the top corner.

Vienna immediately pushed for another goal to settle the game early, but Stadlau remained unfazed. They limited dangerous Vienna attacks by closing spaces in midfield and staying strong in duels. Vienna tried to bypass these duels with long balls forward. One of these led to a goal by Staudinger, but it was ruled out for offside.

The home side also created chances, playing directly and looking for quick finishes. Troindl had several opportunities to shine and, in the 23rd minute, was also fortunate when defenders combined to block a shot from Mattes.

No further goals before halftime
After that big chance to equalize, the game slowed down. Numerous duels and fouls shaped the match, while clear chances were scarce for both sides. Shortly before halftime, Jerabek found himself in a good shooting position after a long ball but narrowly missed the target.

Decision after a short spell
The opening minutes of the second half were uneventful. Stadlau had the first approach, but a header from a corner did not trouble Troindl.

Vienna then struck decisively. After winning the ball in their own half, they launched a quick counterattack. Ellen received the ball in the penalty area and fired a powerful shot into the far corner to make it 2–0 in the 55th minute.

Just minutes later, Jerabek nearly made it 3–0, but goalkeeper Djulic produced a spectacular save. The final decision came soon after: from a free kick on the right, Staudinger reacted quickest in the box and poked the ball past the goalkeeper into the net.

Focused performance until the end
Despite the clear deficit, the hosts pushed for a consolation goal, but Vienna defended confidently. Only a free kick from Andrejevic, which flew just over the bar, posed any real danger.

In the end, Vienna comfortably saw out the match and secured all three points.
