Vienna Battles to a Point in Amstetten
In the 27th round of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga, First Vienna FC 1894 traveled once again to Lower Austria. At the Ertl Glas Stadium, the Döblinger side faced SKU Amstetten. After a balanced first half without goals, Vienna fought to a 0–0 draw despite being a man down after the break, securing an important point.
Following the end of his suspension due to yellow cards, captain Luxbacher returned to the starting lineup, replacing Monschein. Long-term absentee David Ungar was also included in the matchday squad for the first time again, taking a seat on the bench.
Strong Away Support
Support was strong off the pitch as well. Two buses of fans made the journey to the Mostviertel for the final away match of the season outside Vienna. In the clash with former Vienna striker David Peham, the Döblinger side could count on loud backing from their blue-and-yellow supporters.
Cautious Opening Phase
The opening minutes were marked by cautious play from both sides, with the hosts from Amstetten appearing slightly more active. Their first chance came in the 8th minute, but a shot from a wide position was too central to trouble goalkeeper Unger.
Vienna Grows into the Game
Vienna gradually found their rhythm, building up play in a controlled manner and remaining solid defensively. Chances for the hosts, such as in the 18th minute, were dealt with consistently.
Vienna also created attacking moments. A cross toward Zimmermann resulted in a header, though it posed little danger—and the play would have been ruled offside anyway. In the 29th minute, Zimmermann had another effort following a corner but sent the ball well over the bar.
Chances at Both Ends
Amstetten responded immediately with a dangerous move, ending in a shot by Conateh into the side netting. Vienna continued to push, and in the 35th minute a cross to the unmarked Zimmermann was intercepted just in time by Amstetten goalkeeper Estevão.
Further opportunities on both sides went unused. In the 39th minute, Gantschnig fired wide after a deflected free kick, while shortly after, Wimmer’s header for the hosts also missed the target.
After an evenly matched first half, the teams went into the break at 0–0.
Changes at Half-Time
Amstetten made a substitution at the break, with Oberwinkler coming on for Conathe. Vienna also made a change, as Nnamdi replaced Bauer.
Following an early spell of pressure from the hosts, Vienna settled back into the game and created attacking chances. In the 57th minute, they had a major opportunity to take the lead: after a long cross, Nagele headed the ball down to Zimmermann, but his effort from a promising position was saved by the impressive Amstetten goalkeeper Estevão.
Vienna Applies Pressure
Vienna maintained their momentum and increased the pressure. In the 63rd minute, coach Kleer introduced fresh legs, bringing on Monschein for Edelhofer.
Just minutes later came another big chance. In the 68th minute, Zimmermann got the ball in the box, but Köchl managed to clear. The rebound fell to Prohart, whose turning shot was again cleared off the line by Köchl, denying Vienna the lead.
More Substitutions on Both Sides
Amstetten made another change in the 71st minute, with Vienna responding shortly after as Seo replaced Nagele in the 72nd minute.
Red Card as Turning Point
After committing a foul, Pistrol received his second yellow card and was sent off, leaving Vienna to play the closing stages with ten men.
Shortly afterward, Amstetten had a big chance to go ahead, but Deinhofer headed over the bar following a free kick.
Defensive Effort with Ten Men
Vienna reacted with a double substitution, bringing on Szerencsi and returning player David Ungar for Rosenberger and Zimmermann.
In the closing stages, Amstetten significantly increased the pressure, while Vienna was forced to defend deep. In the 82nd minute, Monschein had a chance from a free kick but sent the ball well over the goal.
A Hard-Fought Point
The hosts pushed for a late winner, but Vienna defended resolutely and held firm. The match ended 0–0, with the Döblinger side earning a valuable point despite being a man down.
Vienna is now unbeaten in four matches under coach Kleer. They continue next Saturday with a home game against Wels at Hohe Warte.
