Narrow Defeat Against LAC

Narrow Defeat Against LAC

The Vienna amateurs had a score to settle with LAC following their narrow 1–2 loss earlier in the season. The blue-and-yellow youngsters were eager for revenge—but it was no easy task, as the Landstraße side had shown strong form recently, despite an unlucky defeat against Red Star in their previous match.

Hectic Start to the Match
From the outset, the game was marked by a hectic tempo, with many duels and little fluid play. When the ball did move through multiple passes, it was mostly Vienna dictating play. An early chance fell to Heller, but his shot went straight into the arms of goalkeeper Alozie. It remained the only clear opportunity in the opening phase, as most attacks were neutralized by the well-organized LAC defense.

After 23 minutes, Vienna were fortunate when a dangerous counterattack by the visitors ended only in a shot into the side netting.

Following that scare, Vienna produced several promising moments. The highlight was a well-hidden shot from Rovcanin aimed at the far corner, which Alozie managed to push out for a corner with great effort. However, the long-awaited opening goal did not come, and toward the end of the first half, LAC became dangerous again with a series of well-delivered corners and long throw-ins. Goalkeeper Troindl showed composure and quality in dealing with these situations.

Perfect Start to the Second Half
Vienna got off to an ideal start after the break. Zeidler set up Jerabek on the left flank, who fired a powerful shot off the inside of the post to make it 1–0.

However, the goal did not bring the expected calm and control. Instead, LAC grew more active, while Vienna struggled to bring structure into their game. The match became more about effort than fluid football. LAC found space down the right side, and a duel in the penalty area resulted in a penalty. Troindl rose to the occasion and brilliantly saved the spot kick, keeping Vienna in the lead.

LAC More Efficient
In the 60th minute, coach Tuna introduced fresh legs with Ellen and Kurt, while LAC responded with a triple substitution. One of the new arrivals, Ferencak, made an immediate impact, scoring the equalizer shortly after from a free kick.

Almost directly from the restart, Vienna had a chance to retake the lead. Staudinger capitalized on a rare defensive error, heading the ball over the goalkeeper—but narrowly wide of the post.

Vienna pushed for a winner, but their attacking play lacked precision and decisiveness in the final third. Long-range efforts were blocked, and through balls behind the defense failed to find a target.

Late Setback
Things took a turn for the worse late in the game. Following a quick counterattack, LAC were awarded another penalty. This time, Ünver made no mistake, converting in the 87th minute to give the visitors a 2–1 lead.

Despite their efforts, Vienna could not find an equalizer. LAC thus won both meetings this season in a match that offered little spectacle for the spectators. Vienna only managed to show their quality in short spells and not consistently enough.
