Emotional season finale with home victory
In the final match of the season, Vienna hosted SW Bregenz at Hohe Warte in Round 30. In front of 2,531 spectators, the Döbling side delivered a focused performance and headed into the summer break with a deserved 2–0 victory.
Farewell to Alfred Tatar
Before kick-off, Vienna received the sad news of the passing of former player and cult coach Alfred Tatar. With “Fredl,” not only Vienna but all of Austrian football loses a great personality, a true football philosopher, and a longtime friend.
In honor of Alfred Tatar, the Döbling side wore black armbands. Before the match, a minute’s silence was observed together with the entire Vienna family.
Thank you for everything, Fredl. You will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.
Strong start from Vienna
For Vienna, Odagaki returned to the starting lineup after recovering from injury, replacing Edelhofer. Both teams settled into the game well, which was initially shaped mainly by intense duels in midfield.
The first major chance belonged to the home side. In the 19th minute, Luxbacher made an excellent run down the left wing and laid the ball perfectly into the path of Zimmermann, who calmly slotted home to make it 1–0.
The lead gave Vienna increasing confidence. In the 25th minute, Odagaki attempted a spectacular long-range volley, but the Bregenz goalkeeper produced a strong save.
Vienna double the lead before half-time
Clear chances remained limited throughout the first half. In the 33rd minute, Nnamdi delivered a cross toward Luxbacher, who narrowly missed the target while sliding in. Shortly afterward, Rosenberger headed over the bar following a pass from Zimmermann.
Just before the break, Vienna struck again. Ungar made a strong run down the right side and delivered a pinpoint cross to Pistrol, who headed home for 2–0 in the 40th minute.
Almost immediately afterward, Bregenz created a good chance of their own, but Giuliani safely held Stefanon’s effort.
Vienna defend confidently
The visitors emerged from the dressing room with intent after half-time and enjoyed more possession early in the second half. However, Vienna remained defensively compact and allowed very few clear opportunities.
In the 58th minute, Vienna responded with a double substitution: Edelhofer replaced Nagele, while Szerencsi came on for Ungar. Shortly afterward, Bregenz also introduced fresh legs as Vojic replaced Maksimovic.
The visitors continued to push forward but rarely threatened the Vienna goal. After a misplaced pass from Edelhofer, Bregenz launched a counterattack, but the finish was too central to trouble Giuliani (62’). A little later, Santos headed narrowly wide following a cross.
Vienna also remained active offensively. Edelhofer tried his luck twice from long range, with both efforts narrowly missing the target. In the 68th minute, Jerabek replaced Odagaki, while Monschein later came on for Zimmermann.
Deserved home win to end the season
In the closing stages, Vienna continued to control the match confidently and never looked in danger of letting the result slip. Bregenz kept trying but struggled to find solutions against the compact Döbling defense.
In the end, Vienna celebrated a deserved 2–0 home victory and closed out the season with a strong performance.
