U16 Draws, U18 Celebrates Convincing Home Victory Against Pinzgau
While the U18 side secured a deserved 5–2 home win thanks to a significant improvement after the break, the U16 team had to settle for a 2–2 draw despite taking an early two-goal lead.
NWZ First Vienna FC 1894 U16 vs. NWZ FC Pinzgau Saalfelden U16 2–2 (2–2)
Vienna dominated the opening stages and deservedly took a 2–0 lead through two well-worked goals scored within five minutes. The visitors initially relied almost exclusively on long balls. However, a defensive mistake by the home side allowed FC Pinzgau back into the match and shifted the momentum. In the 45th minute, the visitors eventually equalized to make it 2–2.
After the break, Vienna’s performance declined, and the match became increasingly balanced. Although the home side continued to enjoy slight territorial advantages, they were unable to make them count. Shortly before the final whistle, FC Pinzgau Saalfelden had a golden opportunity to secure all three points, but a penalty kick was missed.
Given Vienna’s drop in performance during the second half, the draw was ultimately a fair result. Both teams had periods of dominance, making the share of the points a reasonable outcome overall.

For long stretches, the match was rather inconsistent. In the first half, the team lacked determination and collective cohesion. Too often, individual players appeared to be trying to solve situations on their own rather than working together as a unit.
After halftime, however, the team showed a marked improvement. They played with much greater purpose, moved both the ball and their opponents more effectively, and increasingly took control of the game. This clear improvement was ultimately reflected in the scoreline, as the goals came during a period in which the team dominated the match and fully deserved its success.
Despite the convincing final result, it was not a performance in which everything went according to plan from a footballing perspective. All the more positive was the team’s response after the break. Thanks to a significant improvement in the second half and efficient finishing, the team can be very satisfied with this victory.
