Alexander Widhalm Leaves Vienna After Four Years

The First Vienna FC and Alexander Widhalm have mutually agreed to terminate his contract. At his own request, the 25-year-old will leave the club at the end of the current season in order to pursue a new personal direction.

Widhalm joined the First Vienna FC in 2022 as a volunteer and took on the role of team manager of the women’s team in spring 2023. Since January 2024, he has served as Head of Women’s Operations. The remaining period until the summer will be used to prepare key strategic decisions for the future and to complete ongoing projects.

During his time at Vienna, the women’s department achieved several significant milestones. Together with the team, the club secured its first-ever qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying phase, while several players also earned moves abroad. Throughout this period, the club consistently followed the “Vienna way”: providing opportunities to young talents and supporting their long-term development. Alexander Widhalm himself is considered an example of this philosophy, having been entrusted with responsibility and opportunities for growth at an early stage within the club.

Speaking about his decision, Alexander Widhalm said: “This was not an easy decision for me, but I have chosen to pursue a new direction. To provide clarity, I approached the club several weeks ago and openly shared my thoughts and decision. Above all, I would like to thank Vienna, everyone involved at the club, the players, colleagues, and fans for my time in Vienna-Döbling. The past years have been incredibly rewarding and educational. I am very grateful for the trust that was placed in me and for the successes we achieved together over the last few years.”

The First Vienna FC respects this personal decision and would like to thank Alexander Widhalm for his dedication and outstanding work over the past years. The club wishes him all the best for the future, both professionally and personally.

Information regarding his successor will be announced at a later date.
