Defender Philipp Breit Joins Döbling
First Vienna FC 1894 has strengthened its defense with the signing of Philipp Breit. The 23-year-old center-back most recently played for league rivals KSV 1919 and will add depth to the Döbling side’s back line from the upcoming season onwards.
First Vienna FC is delighted to welcome another young Austrian talent to the Hohe Warte. Standing at 2.01 meters tall, Breit has already gained valuable experience abroad and most recently played for Kapfenberg.
From Horn to Italy
Philipp Breit came through the youth ranks of SV Horn and also made the step up to the club’s first team. He made five appearances in Austria’s second division before earning a move in the winter of 2022 to the historic Italian club SPAL Ferrara.
In Italy, Breit competed against some of the country’s top youth sides, including the academies of Juventus, Inter Milan, and Atalanta. The Lower Austria native made his debut for SPAL’s senior team in the spring of 2024 and was loaned to Catanzaro in the summer of the same year.
Successful Return to Austria
After several years in Italy, Breit joined KSV 1919 last winter. With the “Falcons,” he quickly established himself as a regular starter in defense, making nine appearances in the Austrian second division during the spring campaign.
Following six months in Styria, Breit now moves to Vienna, where his imposing physical presence is expected to strengthen the Döbling club’s defense.
Sporting Director Didi Elsneg commented on the signing:
"Philipp brings a very interesting overall package with his height, athleticism, and the experience he has already gained despite his young age. He embodies exactly the center-back profile we were looking for, and we are convinced that he will bring us a lot of joy. We were particularly impressed by the way he came back from his injury in Italy and delivered strong performances during the second half of last season. We see great potential for development in him and are convinced that he can take the next step with us and provide additional stability to our defense."
Philipp Breit is also looking forward to his new challenge:
