The Vienna Family Mourns the Passing of Hans Buzek
It is a sad day for Austrian football and for First Vienna FC 1894. Former Vienna player and club official Hans Buzek passed away today.
It is with deep sorrow that we learned of the death of our former player and official, Hans Buzek, who passed away at the age of 88. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
With Hans Buzek, Austrian football loses not only an outstanding player but, above all, a remarkable human being. As both a player and Sporting Director of Austria’s oldest football club, Buzek played a defining role in some of the most successful periods in the history of the Hohe Warte.
At just 16 years of age, Buzek made his debut for Vienna’s first team and immediately demonstrated his exceptional talent. He was a member of the club’s last championship-winning side. With 145 goals in 160 league matches, Buzek ranks third on the all-time scoring list of the Döbling club.
Buzek was equally successful in his role as Sporting Director of First Vienna FC. During his tenure, the club’s “Young Wild Ones” qualified for the UEFA Cup on two occasions.
We mourn the loss of a true blue-and-yellow legend and a very special person. Our thoughts remain with his family and friends during this difficult time.
Dear Hans, thank you for everything you have done for Vienna. You will be deeply missed.
