Season Review: Vienna Amateurs
One week ago, the Vienna City League season came to an end. The Vienna Amateurs celebrated a 1–0 home victory in their final match and finished the campaign in fifth place with a young, talented, and highly motivated squad.
A Perfect Start to the Season
The Blue and Yellows could hardly have wished for a better start to the season. Our team won each of its first three league matches. It was not until the fourth round, in a draw against 1980 Wien, that the Vienna Amateurs dropped points for the first time.
Following the 1–1 draw with 1980 Wien, Vienna quickly returned to winning ways, recording three more consecutive victories. Thanks to a series of convincing performances, the start to the season was more than successful.
It was not until early October that the team suffered its first defeat of the campaign, narrowly losing 2–1 to LAC-Inter. In the following weeks, the Vienna Amateurs faced title favorites Dinamo Helfort and SV Wienerberg and were defeated 2–0 in both matches.
A 1–0 victory over the FAC Amateurs put Vienna back on track, and the team remained unbeaten for the rest of the autumn campaign, ending the first half of the season in an impressive second place.
Changes During the Winter Break
The winter period was used strategically to rejuvenate the squad and provide talented players from within the club with opportunities to establish themselves in senior football. At the same time, the team had to bid farewell to several key players.
With a refreshed and hungry squad, Vienna resumed league action at the end of February with a 3–1 victory over Slovan HAC.
The following rounds were also relatively successful, producing three wins, one draw, and one defeat. Overall, however, the spring campaign proved considerably more challenging than the autumn season.
A Difficult Second Half of the Season
The young team needed time to settle in and adapt to the pace and physical demands of the league. Most matches were closely contested, and small details often tipped the balance in favor of the opposition.
During the second half of the season, head coach Gökce Tuna left the club at his own request. Assistant coach Denny Krcmarek took over as head coach for the remaining matches.
In the final game of the season, Vienna secured a deserved 1–0 home victory. Nicholas Nösslinger scored the decisive goal, helping the Vienna Amateurs finish the campaign in fifth place.
The 2025/26 season was defined by the development of young talent. Several players earned promotions to the first team, underlining the excellent work that has been carried out within the Blue and Yellow youth academy for many years.
The club placed its trust in numerous young players, giving them the opportunity to establish themselves with the Vienna Amateurs while remaining true to its philosophy. Our young stars brought us a great deal of joy throughout the season, and we can look forward with excitement to what the coming years may bring.
