Filip Mrzljak Strengthens Vienna's Midfield
First Vienna FC 1894 has completed the signing of Croatian midfielder Filip Mrzljak. The experienced 33-year-old joins the club from Russian side FK Ufa, adding further quality and leadership to Vienna's midfield ahead of the new season.
Born in Zagreb, Mrzljak came through the renowned youth academy of Dinamo Zagreb. He gained his first taste of senior football during a loan spell with Radnik Sesvete before joining Lokomotiva Zagreb in 2012, where he made his debut in Croatia's top flight.
Over the following years, his career took him to Romania, where he made well over 100 top-flight appearances for Pandurii Târgu Jiu, Astra Giurgiu, and Dinamo Bucharest. He then moved to FK Ufa for his first spell in Russia before returning to Croatia in 2023 with HNK Gorica. Further international experience followed with Punjab FC in India, before he rejoined FK Ufa for a second spell.
Mrzljak also enjoyed an impressive international youth career. Between 2007 and 2013, he earned 41 caps for Croatia's youth national teams. As captain, he led Croatia at both the 2012 UEFA European Under-19 Championship and the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
With his wealth of international experience and leadership qualities, Mrzljak is expected to play a key role in strengthening Vienna's midfield.
