Vienna Women Draw Against Südburgenland
On Matchday 2 of the ADMIRAL Frauen Bundesliga, Vienna welcomed SpG Südburgenland/TSV Hartberg to Hohe Warte. The hosts controlled large parts of the game and took the lead through Wasser. However, the visitors equalised from a corner, with the match eventually ending 1–1.
Head coach Denny Krcmarek made one change to the starting XI, with Viktoria Hahn replacing Lara Wondrejc.
Vienna in Control Early On
Vienna made a confident start and put the visitors under pressure from the opening minutes. In the 15th minute, Ines Sarac tried her luck from distance, but her effort was too central and caused no real danger. Clear-cut chances remained scarce for both sides during the opening stages.
Vienna continued to dominate proceedings throughout the first half, but despite their territorial advantage, they struggled to create clear scoring opportunities. After a good individual run, Havel fired from a promising position, but her effort was blocked at the last moment.
Wasser Makes It 1–0
Just before half-time, Vienna finally found the deserved breakthrough. Following a well-worked attacking move, Wasser received the ball on the edge of the penalty area. The Vienna captain picked out the far corner with a precise finish to make it 1–0.
Südburgenland created their first dangerous moment before the break. Csizmadia attempted to shoot directly from a free-kick, but Vienna goalkeeper Grabenhofer was alert and made a strong save.
Both teams returned from the dressing rooms unchanged. Vienna continued to control the game and looked dangerous going forward. In the 53rd minute, Wasser played Fankhauser through with a well-timed pass, but Fankhauser’s shot found only the side netting.
Vienna continued to create more dangerous moments as the second half progressed.
Südburgenland Equalise
Against the run of play, Südburgenland levelled the score from a corner in the 65th minute. Hanna Maurer picked up the ball inside the penalty area and calmly slotted it home to make it 1–1.
Denny Krcmarek responded with a triple substitution, bringing on Cavic, Heiplik and Milanovic for Wasser, Mädl and Hahn.
Shortly afterwards, Vienna came close to regaining the lead. Following a cross from Fankhauser, Milanovic got onto the end of the ball, but her shot struck the woodwork.
In the 75th minute, Magyarics found herself in a promising shooting position, but Grabenhofer won the one-on-one and turned the effort behind for a corner. The Vienna goalkeeper also dealt with the resulting set piece.
The visitors were growing increasingly dangerous as the match progressed.
In the 85th minute, Kurkutovic tried her luck from distance, but her effort was saved. Vienna continued to push for a winning goal until the final whistle, but the decisive goal would not come.
The match against Südburgenland ended in a 1–1 draw.
