Vienna Secure a Point in the Final Minute
In the first Sunday morning match of the season, Vienna hosted FC Liefering at the Hohe Warte. In an intense encounter, the visitors took a 2–0 lead. But the Döbling side showed great character and scored twice in stoppage time to secure a point.
Head coach Patrick Enengl made two changes to his starting XI compared with the previous week. Benjamin Rosenberger replaced Marco Gantschnig, while In-Gyom Jung made his debut in the Blue and Yellow shirt, starting in place of Felix Nagele.
High Intensity from the Start
Both teams came out strong in the challenges from the opening whistle, resulting in an intense and physical encounter. In the sixth minute, Vienna created the first chance of the match. Following a pass from Jung, Marte received the ball and fired from a tight angle, but his effort went over the bar.
In the 16th minute, Liefering were awarded a free kick in a promising position following a foul by Luxbacher. The well-struck effort was blocked by Soukouna, however. Neither side managed to create any clear-cut chances during the opening stages.
Liefering Take the Lead from a Corner
The visitors grew increasingly threatening as the first half progressed and were rewarded for their efforts in the 33rd minute. Following a corner, Nico Masching headed the ball into the net to put Liefering ahead.
Vienna were unfazed by going behind and immediately looked for an equaliser. Shortly before half-time, Zimmermann got on the end of a low cross from Marte. The Liefering defence managed to disrupt the striker's effort, however, and the Salzburg side took their narrow lead into the break.
Vienna made one change at half-time, with Christoph Monschein replacing Bernhard Zimmermann.
Vienna Go a Man Up
The second half immediately produced another key moment. Following a serious foul on Soukouna, referee Stefan Ebner showed Filip Matijasevic a second yellow card in the 52nd minute, reducing Liefering to ten men. Vienna were now playing with a numerical advantage.
Vienna Push for the Equaliser
The Blue and Yellow immediately began creating danger in the opposition penalty area. Substitute Monschein was first to try his luck, but his effort was too central. Just a few minutes later, Jung also attempted a shot, but his finish lacked accuracy.
Liefering Extend Their Lead
Against the run of play, Liefering managed to double their advantage. Following an attack down the left, Unger initially saved Oghenetejiri's shot. The ball, however, fell back into the penalty area, where Oghenetejiri was left completely unmarked and made it 2–0.
Double Change for Vienna
After the second Salzburg goal, head coach Patrick Enengl responded with a double substitution, bringing on Nagele and Anselm. Prohart and Jung made way.
In the 67th minute, Bernhard Luxbacher had an opportunity to reduce the deficit with a free kick. Goalkeeper Sarcevic produced an excellent save to keep the ball out.
Liefering Defend Compactly
The visitors continued to defend with great determination, making it difficult for Vienna to break through their defensive line and create clear chances. In the 77th minute, Edelhofer and Gantschnig came on for Gruber and Luckeneder.
Vienna Push Until the End
Vienna continued to fight for a way back into the match and created several opportunities. After a fine pass from Soukouna sent Monschein into space, the striker tried his luck from distance, but his effort went wide. In the 87th minute, Edelhofer had a great chance, but his shot was too central.
Vienna Rescue a Point in Stoppage Time
Within the space of just a few minutes, Vienna finally turned the game around. First, Rosenberger's free kick curled directly into the net to make it 1–2. Just seconds later, Marte played a perfect pass into the centre, where Soukouna managed to poke the ball home.
Vienna came back from 2–0 down in stoppage time and secured a valuable point against Liefering.
