1-0 Home Win Against Amstetten
On Friday evening, Vienna welcomed SKU Amstetten to the Hohe Warte for Round 5 of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga. Vienna controlled the first half and deservedly took the lead through Soukouna. The visitors pushed for an equaliser after the break, but could not find a way through the Blue and Yellow defence. Vienna held on for a narrow 1-0 victory and secured another three points.
Philipp Breit Makes His Starting XI Debut
For the clash against his former club, head coach Patrick Enengl was forced to make one change to his starting line-up. Felix Nagele was ruled out through illness, with Philipp Breit coming into the team in his place.
Anselm Has the First Chance
Vienna started the match on the front foot and had a great opportunity to take an early lead as early as the fourth minute. Following a free-kick from Rosenberger, Gantschnig laid the ball off to Anselm. The striker, however, could only hit the post from a tight angle, leaving the score at 0-0.
Chances at Both Ends
Vienna continued to dictate the tempo and remained in control of the game. In the 16th minute, captain Luxbacher tested Amstetten goalkeeper Estevao with a long-range effort, but the keeper dealt with it comfortably. Shortly afterwards, the visitors registered their first attempt through Vötter, but Bernhard Unger produced a strong reflex save to keep it out.
As the first half progressed, the visitors from the Mostviertel region also began to make more of an impact going forward. However, Bernhard Unger was rarely called into action. Vienna continued to look for opportunities to threaten their opponents on quick counter-attacks.
Around ten minutes before half-time, Vienna launched a dangerous attack down the left. Bernhard Luxbacher delivered a dangerous cross towards the far post, where Marte was waiting, but he could not turn the ball into the net. Shortly afterwards, Anselm had another chance to put Vienna ahead, but his effort went narrowly over the bar.
Soukouna Puts Vienna Ahead
Vienna were finally rewarded for their attacking efforts before the break. Following a cross from Marte, Philipp Breit headed the ball on to Soukouna. The Frenchman wasted no time and fired a powerful shot into the net to make it 1-0 to Vienna.
That was how the teams went into the half-time break.
Neither Amstetten head coach Andreas Gahleitner nor Vienna coach Patrick Enengl made any changes at the interval. After the restart, it was initially the visitors who managed to establish themselves in Vienna’s half. However, the well-organised Blue and Yellow defence prevented them from creating any clear-cut chances.
Double Substitution for Vienna
Vienna made their first changes in the 55th minute. Monschein and Zimmermann came on to provide fresh energy in attack, replacing Anselm and goalscorer Soukouna.
The Döbling side subsequently regained more control of the match, although clear-cut opportunities remained scarce at both ends. Patrick Enengl made another double substitution in the 65th minute, bringing on Filip Mrzljak and In-Gyom Jung for Philipp Breit and Bernhard Luxbacher.
The second half remained a demanding one for Vienna, who found it difficult to create attacking opportunities. The visitors increased the pressure on the Blue and Yellows but never truly managed to turn that pressure into a clear-cut chance.
In the closing stages, David Ungar replaced the injured Gruber.
Vienna ultimately defended their narrow lead until the final whistle to secure another league victory.
Looking Ahead
This was Vienna’s final home match for some time. The next game at the Hohe Warte will not take place until 9 October, when Vienna host SKN St. Pölten.
Before then, the Döbling side will be in action in the second round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup, where they will face Austria Salzburg next week.
