Vienna Amateure Narrowly Defeated by Red Star
First Vienna FC 1894’s Amateure suffered a narrow defeat on Matchday 2 of the Wiener Stadtliga. Against Red Star Penzing, the Blue and Yellows went into half-time 1-0 down. Despite a committed second-half performance and several personnel changes, Vienna were unable to find an equaliser.
Following their 2-1 defeat to the FAC Amateure in the opening match of the season, the young Blue and Yellows were determined to pick up their first points of the campaign. A fiercely contested match initially developed against Red Star Penzing.
Red Star Take the Lead After Half an Hour
The visitors from Penzing took the lead in the 31st minute. Yasin Turoglu made it 1-0, which ultimately proved to be the only goal of the afternoon.
Vienna tried to respond before the break but were unable to level the score. In the 35th minute, Dusan Urosevic was shown a yellow card. Shortly before half-time, head coach Amir Bradaric made his first personnel change, bringing Mihailo Milic on for Louis Birkhahn.
Vienna Throw Everything Forward
Another change followed at the start of the second half, with Taha Uysal replacing Dusan Urosevic. After an hour, Poyraz Özmeral and Hüseyin Yücel were introduced for Colin Fischer and Nicholas Nösslinger.
The Blue and Yellows increased the pressure and pushed for an equaliser. During an intense closing phase, the match became increasingly physical and fiercely contested. Mihailo Jovic came on for Henrik Soos in the 81st minute, becoming Vienna’s fifth and final substitute.
Despite their best efforts, the equaliser never came. Red Star defended their narrow lead until the final whistle, leaving the Vienna Amateure with a 1-0 defeat.
The young Blue and Yellows will already have another opportunity to pick up their first points of the new Stadtliga season in the next round.
Young Team Continues to Gain Experience
After two narrow defeats at the start of the season, the young team are still waiting for their first points. Head coach Amir Bradaric reflected on the match and was already looking ahead:
Head Coach Amir Bradaric:
“It was a game with very few chances today, and it could quite easily have ended 0-0. In the end, Red Star were just that little bit better when it mattered and deserved to win. We have a very young team who are currently paying their dues and gaining important experience. That is part of our development process. We will continue to work hard, and I am convinced that the team will soon be rewarded for their efforts with their first points.”
