Convincing cup opener against SG FAC/SV Essling
In the first round of the ÖFB Women’s Cup, Vienna travelled to face SG FAC/SV Essling. The Blues and Yellows secured a convincing 6–0 victory at FAC-Platz and booked their place in the next round.
Fankhauser injured during warm-up
In front of 100 spectators, head coach Denny Krcmarek made several changes to his starting lineup. However, Vienna had to make a late adjustment before kick-off, as Fankhauser picked up an injury during the warm-up. Keckeis therefore moved into the starting XI.
The match began with both sides cautiously feeling their way into the game. Vienna took the lead with their first good opportunity in the 16th minute. Batarilo delivered a well-placed cross into the box, where Kurkutovic headed home to make it 1–0.
Milanovic doubles the lead
Just four minutes later, the ball found the back of the hosts’ net again, but Milanovic’s goal was ruled out for offside. Vienna subsequently increased the pressure. In the 22nd minute, Kurkutovic was denied by the goalkeeper from a tight angle. Just a minute later, she set up Sergeeva, whose effort narrowly missed the target.
The deserved second goal finally arrived in the 24th minute. Sarac played a perfectly weighted pass into Milanovic’s path, and she calmly finished to make it 2–0.
The Blues and Yellows continued to control proceedings. Keckeis missed a great chance from close range in the 35th minute, before a Milanovic effort following a corner was cleared off the line in the 40th minute.
Vienna created numerous chances in the first half but were unable to convert several of them. They nevertheless went into the break with a deserved 2–0 lead.
Three more goals after the break
Head coach Denny Krcmarek made four changes at half-time, bringing on Havel, Hahn, Mädl and Wondrejc for Milanovic, Keckeis, Kurkutovic and Gebert.
Vienna immediately picked up where they had left off. In the 47th minute, Havel’s initial effort was saved, but Höcherl reacted quickest to the rebound and made it 3–0.
After 59 minutes, Wondrejc struck the crossbar with her effort. Sergeeva reacted fastest to the rebound and turned it into the net to make it 4–0.
Just three minutes later, Sarac added a fifth. After receiving a perfectly timed pass from Hahn, she rounded the goalkeeper and calmly slotted the ball into the empty net.
Höcherl completes her brace
In the 70th minute, Krcmarek made another substitution, bringing Cavic on for Brunmair. Two minutes later, Höcherl completed her brace, curling a well-placed effort into the far corner to make it 6–0.
Vienna continued to look dangerous in the closing stages. In the 82nd minute, Hahn’s effort following good work from Sarac was cleared off the line.
Safely through to the next round
The Blues and Yellows remained composed in the final stages and comfortably saw out their commanding lead. With a convincing 6–0 away victory over SG FAC/SV Essling, Vienna deservedly booked their place in the next round of the ÖFB Women’s Cup.
