Vienna Celebrate Well-Deserved Away Win in Hütteldorf
Vienna secured a well-deserved victory away in Hütteldorf in the 6th round of the ADMIRAL 2. Liga. After leading 1-0 at half-time, Zimmermann sealed the 2-0 final score shortly before the end.
In the clash with SK Rapid’s young side, head coach Patrick Enengl made three changes compared to the cup match against Austria Salzburg. Ungar was unavailable due to illness, while Breit and Jung initially took their places on the bench. Captain Luxbacher, Fillafer and Gruber came into the starting eleven.
Vienna Dangerous from the Start
The Blues and Yellows made a strong start and created the first attacking opportunities in the opening minutes. First, Luxbacher moved into the penalty area and got a shot away, but he did not seriously trouble Rapid goalkeeper Orgler. Shortly afterwards, Anselm intercepted a pass from the hosts, beat his opponent one-on-one on the edge of the box and fired a shot, but Orgler was there again.
After a Rapid counterattack, Vienna quickly switched play in the 10th minute. Fillafer laid the ball off to Soukouna, whose shot was deflected behind for a corner. Shortly afterwards, Luxbacher set up Anselm, who tried his luck from a tight angle. Orgler was able to turn the ball behind for another corner.
Rosenberger Puts Vienna Ahead
In the 25th minute, a long pass from Prohart found Fillafer making a run forward. The attacking player brought the ball down brilliantly and attempted to lob the Rapid goalkeeper. Orgler, however, read the situation well and safely caught the ball.
Five minutes later, Vienna were rewarded for their committed performance. Following a fine pass from Gantschnig into the path of Fillafer, the attacker was initially challenged by a Rapid defender. Soukouna won the ball back and played it into the middle, where it took a deflection and fell at Rosenberger’s feet. He made no mistake and scored to give the Blues and Yellows a deserved 1-0 lead.
Shortly before half-time, Anselm had another chance to make it 2-0 after a cross into the Rapid penalty area. His header, however, went wide. Vienna therefore went into the break with a deserved 1-0 lead.
Vienna Remain Dangerous After the Break
At half-time, head coach Patrick Enengl made his first substitution, bringing on Monschein for Fillafer. Vienna continued to look dangerous going forward and created their next good opportunity in the 53rd minute. Marte sent a dangerous ball across the penalty area to Rosenberger, who attempted a low cross from the other side. The Rapid defence was able to clear.
Just one minute later, the Blues and Yellows made a double substitution: Jung and Zimmermann came on for Soukouna and Anselm.
Defensively Solid and Still a Threat Going Forward
Rapid now committed more players to attack, but continued to struggle to create clear-cut chances against a compact Vienna defence. The Blues and Yellows remained defensively solid and continued to threaten going forward.
In the 65th minute, Jung switched play beautifully to Marte. He took a shot from inside the penalty area but sent his effort over the bar. Shortly afterwards, Rosenberger played the ball to substitute Jung, who drove into the box and also fired over.
Zimmermann Seals the Victory
In the closing stages, Enengl introduced fresh legs, bringing on Mrzljak for Prohart and Winter for Rosenberger. In the 88th minute, Vienna finally put the result beyond doubt. Following a well-worked attack, Jung delivered a precise low cross to Zimmermann, who slotted home to make it 2-0.
The Blues and Yellows then saw out the game without any further trouble and comfortably protected their lead. With a disciplined and defensively strong performance, Vienna celebrated a well-deserved 2-0 victory.
