30th 1894 Business Club: Business, Science and the Vienna Network at WU Vienna
The 1894 Business Club of First Vienna FC 1894 celebrated its 30th event – once again demonstrating just how strongly the network surrounding Austria’s oldest football club has grown. Well over 100 guests accepted the invitation to the anniversary evening and took the opportunity to exchange ideas in a special setting, make new contacts and strengthen existing business relationships. This time, the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna) hosted the event.
From Vienna to WU Vienna
The evening was opened by Vienna Vice-President Univ. Prof. Dr. Jonas Puck, Professor of International Business and Dean for International Affairs, responsible for the international positioning and orientation of WU Vienna. In his welcoming remarks, Puck shared personal insights into his years with First Vienna FC 1894, spoke about the current sporting development of the women’s and men’s teams, and highlighted some fascinating parallels between the history and development of WU Vienna and Vienna. Both institutions share not only a long history, but also a commitment to continuous development and to exploring new paths.
A Scientific Perspective on Football
The guests were then given an insight into the academic work of the Sport and Management research initiative. Dr. Jakob Müllner presented current research findings and fascinating perspectives at the intersection of sport and business. His presentation generated great interest and impressively demonstrated the wide range of questions and opportunities that emerge from bringing these two fields together.
Networking and Stickers
Following the official programme, the buffet was opened and the evening continued with plenty of opportunities for conversation and networking. Numerous business cards changed hands, new contacts were made and existing relationships strengthened. This time, networking was supported by the Networking Sticker Passport, which encouraged guests in a fun and engaging way to strike up conversations and discover new contacts within the 1894 Business Club.
Seidl and Gebert Share Fascinating Insights
Another highlight of the evening came from Vienna players Nadine Seidl and Leonie Gebert. They gave guests personal and fascinating insights into their everyday lives as professional footballers – both on and off the pitch – and spoke about the challenges they face, their training routines and the many facets of professional football.
The 30th 1894 Business Club once again demonstrated what makes the Vienna network special: bringing together people from business, sport and society while creating opportunities for personal exchange and new connections in a welcoming atmosphere.
First Vienna FC 1894 would like to sincerely thank all guests for a successful and varied evening, and in particular WU Vienna for its hospitality and for providing such excellent facilities for the 30th 1894 Business Club.
