Vienna women’s team with final match before league split
There is one more round to play in the regular season of the ADMIRAL Frauen Bundesliga. Before the league splits, the Vienna women's team will face FC Blau-Weiß Linz/Union Kleinmünchen away. The match will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 12:30 PM at the Hofmann Personal Stadion.
Vienna secures spot in the championship group
The blue and yellow women’s team has already secured a place in the championship group before the end of the regular season. After a tough start to the season, a long winning streak in the fall ensured a spot in the top four. In the championship group, Vienna will face SKN St. Pölten, Austria Wien, and SK Sturm Graz twice, competing for the top positions in the table.
Impressive home victory in the last round
Vienna celebrated a dominant 5-0 victory over SPG FC Lustenau/FC Dornbirn in the last match. From the start, the Döbling side controlled the game and quickly rewarded themselves with goals. A brace from Linda Natter, along with goals from Rukavina, Falk, and Gebert, secured the convincing final score.
Lucie Schlimé – a reliable presence in goal
So far this spring, Vienna has been able to count on consistent performances from goalkeeper Lucie Schlimé. The summer signing has proven to be a rock in the blue-and-yellow defense. In the last match, Schlimé saved a penalty to prevent an equalizer, further solidifying her role as a key player.
Opponent in the relegation battle
FC Blau-Weiß Linz/Union Kleinmünchen currently sits in second-to-last place with 13 points, just one point ahead of bottom-placed city rival LASK. In the last two rounds, they suffered heavy away defeats against SCR Altach and SKN St. Pölten. Vienna won the first leg in the fall at Hohe Warte 2-0.
Vienna head coach Mark Dobrounig on the upcoming opponent: "We are heading to Linz with positive emotions. Last year, we had a great success there, and we want to carry that positive energy onto the pitch. BW Linz has shown good performances in recent matches but often ended up with less favorable results due to unfortunate game situations. Their biggest threat comes from their power in offensive transitions, so we need to be well-organized in our defensive transitions."
Dobrounig adds: "We want to control the game through possession and create scoring opportunities, while also applying high intensity when pressing to put the opponent under pressure and quickly transition into attack."
