1-0 Home Victory Against SV Horn
In Round 21 of the ADMIRAL 2nd Division, Vienna hosted SV Horn at the Hohe Warte. A first-half goal from Edelhofer gave the home team a deserved lead, and in the second half, Vienna played with control, securing a solid 1-0 win.
Vienna Returns to Hohe Warte After International Break
After the international break, Vienna returned to their home ground, Hohe Warte, for the clash with SV Horn. Coach Sütcü largely stuck with his trusted starting lineup, making just two changes compared to the match against SKN St. Pölten: Alozie replaced Bumbic, and Ungar came in for Titkov.
Vienna Starts with Intensity
The hosts set a high tempo from the very beginning, putting early pressure on the visitors from Lower Austria. Ochs had the first chance early on, getting a shot off inside the box, but his attempt was deflected out for a corner by a Horn defender.
Despite Vienna’s aggressive start, Horn showed resilience and tried to create offensive chances, although these were mostly intercepted by the alert Vienna defense before they reached the penalty area.
Chances Begin to Pile Up
In the 7th minute, Vienna was awarded a free-kick from a promising position. Luxbacher delivered a sharp ball into the box, but a Horn player cleared it under pressure for another corner. The ensuing corner kick also created some danger, but goalkeeper Liu was able to secure the ball safely.
The Blue-Yellows continued to dominate play, with Edelhofer having the next good chance. A long ball found the striker, who battled past his markers but sent his shot wide of the far post.
Defensive Solidity
SV Horn worked hard to keep the game open, but Vienna’s defense was solid and had the right answers to every attack. The next dangerous play came through Nnamdi, who made a clever pass to Ochs. Ochs then laid the ball across to Zimmermann and Edelhofer – Zimmermann let it pass, and Edelhofer took a shot. However, a Horn defender was able to deflect the shot at the last moment.
The best chance so far fell to Edelhofer once again: after a precise pass from Bauer, he found himself alone in the box, but Liu reacted excellently, tipping the ball just past the post with his fingertips.
Edelhofer Breaks the Deadlock
Shortly after, the breakthrough came. Luxbacher showed great vision in midfield and played a precise pass to Edelhofer on the left wing. The forward accelerated along the edge of the box, skillfully faked out his defenders, and then calmly finished to give Vienna a deserved 1-0 lead.
Just before the break, Ochs had a chance after a pass from Nnamdi but failed to get a shot off. In added time, a corner kick from Vienna nearly created danger again: Omerovic rose high to meet the ball, but his header went narrowly wide.
Half-Time Substitution
At the start of the second half, Coach Sütcü made his first substitution: top scorer Boateng came on for Zimmermann in the same position. Horn responded with a double substitution, hoping to bring fresh attacking energy to the game.
SV Horn tried to get back into the match but found it hard to break down Vienna’s solid defense, which allowed very few significant chances. The game became more about midfield duels, with clear-cut scoring opportunities scarce for both teams.
Fresh Legs for the Final Stages
In the 65th minute, both teams made double substitutions. For Vienna, Bumbic and Titkov replaced Alozie and Ungar. The fresh players added a bit more movement to the game, but the overall flow remained slow and controlled.
The best chance in this period fell to the home side again: in the 76th minute, Ochs played a brilliant through-ball past the Horn defense to Edelhofer. The striker was one-on-one with keeper Liu but couldn’t get past him in the one-on-one situation.
Victory Secured
In the 80th minute, Vienna made another substitution: Edelhofer left the field, and Schmidt came on, another tactical change in the forward line.
Horn had one of their few attacking moments in the 86th minute. A cross from the wing was comfortably collected by Vienna keeper Unger.
In added time, Sütcü made one final change, bringing on Steiner for Nnamdi to add fresh legs for the last few minutes. Vienna remained composed in the closing stages, keeping control and securing a narrow but well-deserved 1-0 victory.
